Lemon Jelly – Lost Horizons (2002)

They probably spent a lot of money on studio production time, versus just whipping some shit up on an Apple G3. It sounds expensive for the time it was made.

On a recent flight to the Southwest, the person next to me asked what was on my playlist.

ME: I listen to a lot of electronic music.

SHE: Oh, like what?

ME: Well right now a band called Lemon Jelly. Do you know them?

SHE: Never heard of em. What do they sound like?

ME: Pretty quirky, almost carnival like with their loops and vocal samples. Perpetually mellow, and polished.

SHE: Polished?

ME: They probably spent a lot of money on studio production time, versus just whipping some shit up on an Apple G3. It sounds expensive for the time it was made. If you’ve ever listened to the Art of Noise, they’re a close comparison.

SHE: Ok… so it’s noise?

ME: No they’re pretty stoney.

SHE: Stoney?

ME: I think they smoked a lot of weed. The music is generally pretty chill.

SHE: Oh, I’m not sure I’d like that. Pot makes me really paranoid.
